Continuing with the news from the USA here we have some snippets from the recent F2A World Cup meeting in St Louis, all text is from Paul Gibault.
St Louis World Cup
Nearly everyone did a personal best with their Profi’s. Will Namura & I had almost no success with Will’s Kostin powered models. (Yeah, the one that did 288 earlier in Pepinster).
Will got in one slow flight of 255 kph & my only sorta decent flight had the prop blow off the motor around lap 2 or 3, with the resultant zero. To my surprise, the model was easily repaired. In any event, our entire 2 days of the USA Cup was rubbish. Will made the executive call not to thrash further at the Canada Cup. So we hung out for the morning & headed back to the airport in the afternoon watching everybody else go fast. Bill Hughes quipped watching us out there flight after flight testing was painful to watch. No shit Surlock! So I placed last with a perfect score zero. I think the other 2 guys with trainers were ahead of me, then Will (255) then the rest of the fast guys ahead…
Young Ivan Valishev was in school & I think might have only made 2 days of the comp.
Ivan seemed content with his 301 in the first comp & placed 3rd in the Canada Cup, but had to leave before podium photo time… Although the weather felt hot & muggy, evidently the Profi models all liked it! Matthieu Perret from France flew quite fast and had a great time. The other Canadian is an ex pat Russian college buddy of Alex Valishev’s now living in Ontario, Canada & a recent F/F world F1C champ.(Yury Shevenekov). Yury said early on: ” That pylon is my enemy.”
So that”s all I can say about the twin USA/CAN cup events. The transitrace worked perfectly with Bill Lee using a new module that allows the use of a modern laptop commuter as compared to have to use an older machine.
I do recall Alex V’s 307 flight having laps up to 309kph. The Valishev’s are simply machines…. I imagine it might be similar to hanging with Peter Halman. Their knowledge base is outstanding!
Thanks Paul. Maybe next year we can get some more contest results from North America.
