Is an exhaust system mandatory in the .12 class?
Rule - For Class 0.12, either the engine manufacturers’ expansion type silencer or a Super Silencer may be used. Maximum length of the exhaust system shall not exceed 200 mm measured from the centre line of the cylinder to the extreme end of the tail pipe, along the centre line of the system. Maximum tail pipe diameter shall be 6 mm.
The phrase 'may be used' indicates to me that it is optional and a .12 engine could be used open exhaust.

My take on reading the 0.12 exhaust rule is that it is 'an either or' situation not a leave it off open face option.
I think if I rose to the lofty height of event CD at Barton that would be my ruling, I would say that it seems like a candidate for a Super silencer to me, are you thinking of rear exhaust?
