In the Air tonight….
In The Air Tonight. A Zoom initiative from the BMFA. Having talked it over with Big Baz I have contacted the BMFA and been allocated the Zoom meeting slot for Tuesday 5th January at &7.30 to about 8.30 pm. What we want to do is broadly follow the guidance that I have cut and pasted below and really have a bit of a presentation and discussion primarily aimed at encouraging newcomers to control line speed. We will obviously centre around our activities at Barton but it should all have nationwide and worldwide relevance.
I am hoping that my son Matthew will be able to join in, although he will be mobilizing to go offshore around that date. Baz thinks, (and he is probably right) that rather than just us old farts blowing out trumpets it would be useful to have a younger and fresher take on the pleasures and potential pitfalls of actually getting a speed model into the air and keeping it there long enough to record a speed. Matthew has some good experience to share if he is available.
In any case I will work up something with Big Baz and Chris to entertain and enthuse us all on the night. We should also be able to show some models and bits and bobs to help answer your questions.
It occurs to me that if this works we might want to have a regular Open Speed Zoom meeting to take things forward, we can take a poll after this first BMFA sponsored Zoom.
I will post more once I have it to hand, i.e. how to join the meeting etc and it is worth noting that Baz, Paul and Ollie are hosting their own BMPRA pylon racing Zoom meeting on 15th December, should be worth tuning in for..

In the Air tonight….
The Concept
Every Tuesday evening through December, January & February at 7-30pm an open Zoom presentation (webinar) is held with the aim of providing a short introduction to all areas of Aeromodelling.
The Motivation
Corona Virus, lock downs, isolation, shielding, social distancing, zoom, bubbles are now everyday words and phrases we have had to accept into our lives and need to live with for the foreseeable future making socialising and model flying ever more difficult.
The consequences of living with a pandemic are only just being realised and with the darker months ahead of us the effects on one’s wellbeing we should be considering how best to address this to help some of our members. Communication and contact with fellow model flyers being one way in which we can help get through the winter months.
A small revolution in communication has spread from the commercial sector into everyone’s household… and it’s called video conferencing. The BMFA has successfully shown with the Achievement Scheme, Club talks and general meetings that our members are keen to partake in Video Conferencing with the `Zoom ‘ platform being the most widely accepted.
The Method
Each Technical Committee, Specialist Bodies, the Achievement Scheme , other groups and individuals to be approached and encouraged to put forward a volunteer to present their chosen subject via Zoom (webinar) with a short Q&A session.
A total of 12 `In the Air Tonight’ Zoom presentations with a maximum 30min presentation and 15mins Q&A session.
Assistance and guidance will be offered.
